Tinashe Biography

Tinashe is an American singer-songwriter, dancer and actress from Lexington, Kentucky, U.S. She is a former member of the girl’s group Stunner.


At the age of 4, Tinashe began studying ballet, tap, and jazz dancing and continued to compete in various styles as a part of a dance company until she was 18.

When she was eight years old together with her family they moved to Los Angeles, California where she attended Crescenta Valley High School for a year before finishing early to pursue a career in music full-time.

After stunners disbanded in 2011 Tinashe pursued a solo career. She taught herself how to record and mix music where she wrote and recorded songs in her room studio.

Tinashe gave her first televised solo performance on 3rd May 2011 during a Dodgers—Cubs game where she sang “God Bless America”. She released her first solo music video on 24th June 2011, a cover of Lil Wayne’s single “How to Love”.

In February 2012 Tinashe released her debut solo mixtape ‘In Case We Die’ recorded in her home studio. The mixtape spawned four singles, the first being promotional song, “Chainless”, released to iTunes on December 19, 2011.

Tinashe announced on 13th July 2012 that she had signed with RCA Records, releasing her r second mixtape, Reverie, was released on September 6, 2012, through her official website.

On 13th January 2014, Tinashe released her first single from her debut album, “2 On” which entered the US Billboard Hot 100 chart at number 89. On 7th October 2014, Tinashe released her debut album ‘Aquarius’.

In the early 2000s, Tinashe made her television debut on a number of television shows movies, and children’s videos such as Cora Unashamed (2000), Call Me Claus (2001), Masked and Anonymous (2003), and two TV series: Rocket Power (2004) and Avatar: The Last Airbender (2007). These led to a regular role in the TV series Out of Jimmy’s Head in 2007–2008 and a recurring role on Two and a Half Men in 2008–2009.


In 2007 tinashe joined Stunners, a girl group founded by Vitamin C. Her bandmates were Marisol Esparza, Allie Gonino, Hayley Kiyoko, and Kelsey Sanders. Six months after the band was formed the band was signed with Columbia Records and later signed a production deal with Lionsgate Entertainment for a scripted television show for MTV.

On 18th March 2009, the band released a single and a video ‘Bubblegum’, releasing the EP in October. In 2010 the band released a single “Dancin’ Around the Truth” and the music video of the song premiered on 2nd June 2010 before the group was announced as an opening act on Justin Bieber’s My World Tour. The band disbanded in 2011.

Her mother is of Danish, Italian, Norwegian, Irish and English descent and teaches physical therapy at California State University, Northridge.

Ben later said that Tinashe was trailing her and she would pop up in places where Ben and Jenner would be hanging out.

Tinashe and Chris Brown collaborated on Tinashe’s song ‘Player’. They later had a fallout in 2016 after Kehlani posted that she had attempted suicide due to a series of very public personal issues Chris brown tweeted that it was a lie and was doing it for the gram. He said that she did it for sympathy so that comments under her pics won’t look bad. Due to this Tinashe unfollowed Chris on Twitter to which Chris took to Instagram and posted

During an interview with San Francisco hip-hop station, KMEL Tinashe said that as far as she knew she didn’t have a beef with Chris.

“I felt like it was just so unnecessary, I just think it’s silly. Petty… It’s not even worth it, it’s not a big deal to me. I don’t think that follows on Twitter are a big deal. If I see him, I would love to speak to him. I would love if he would reach out. I have absolutely nothing against him. We’re on good terms, as far as I knew.”

Nicki Minaj is featured on rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine’s song “FEFE” in which Nicki gives a shout out to Tinashe in the line where she says; “I’m pretty like Tinashe”. Tinashe took to twitter where she thanked Nicki for the shout out.
